Its types are:
- Coccycua pumila - Dwarf American cuckoo - previously part of the genus Coccyzus
- Coccycua minuta - Little piaya - the species was previously part of the genus Piaya
- Coccycua cinerea - previously part of the genus Coccyzus
2. Synonyms
The genus name Coccycua is often mistaken for spelling and various corrections have been suggested. However, the name in its original spelling is valid. Junior synonyms:

- Coccyzaea Hartlaub, 1842 unjustified correction
- Coccygua Fitzinger, 1856 unjustified correction
- Coccyzusa Cabanis & Heine, unjustified fix
