Again about the birds of Costa Rica

After a short break, we continue to talk about the birds of Costa Rica and show them. Today we will talk about the iconic place known among the Berders - the biological station La Selva. It is in this protected area that the greatest concentration of species diversity of tropical fauna, including birds, is observed.
Olga has already told about our visit to the station, I will just show the representatives of this natural zoo.

Collar short-winged manakin (White-collared Manakin, Manacus candei) demonstrates its beauty. Like other representatives of the Manakinov family (Pipridae) males arrange group tournaments in which they parade in front of the female. I must say that I have not seen the males sequentially sit on a branch and alternately jump in front of the female, as is sometimes shown on television. They settled on different branches, but close enough to each other. It is possible that in this type of manakin, the mating proceeds according to its own laws.

Fruiting shrubs and low trees attract a wide variety of birds. All of them are not averse to eating sweet fruits.

Short-billed Pigeon, Patagioenas nigrirostris)

Red-eyed Vireo, Vireo olivaceus olivaceus), the Vireonic family (Vireonidae).

Some birds fed on fruits that had fallen from the branches. Among them was the Dusky-faced Tanager, Mitrospingus cassinii costaricensis), the Tanager family (Thraupidae).

Golden-hooded Tanager, Tangara larvata centralis), the Tanager family (Thraupidae).

Gray-capped Flycatcher, Myiozetetes granadensis granadensis), Tyrannova family (Tyrannidae).

Female red-headed dacnis (Scarlet-thighed Dacnis, Dacnis venusta venusta), the Tanager family (Thraupidae).

Bay-breasted Warbler, Setophaga castanea), the Wood family (Parulidae).

But not only the fruits attracted birds to this place. Among others were seen:

Chocolate woodpecker (Chestnut-colored Woodpecker, Celeus castaneus)

Nicaraguan Seed Finch (Nicaraguan Seed Finch, Oryzoborus nuttingi), Tanager family (Thraupidae ). Its wide beak is amazing!

Large Saltator (Buff-throated Saltator, Saltator maximus magnoides), the Cardinal family (Cardinalidae).

Tiger Wren (Band-backed Wren, Campylorhynchus zonatus costaricensis), the Krapivnikov family (Troglodytidae).

Black-faced Grosbeak Caryothraustes poliogaster scapularis), the Cardinal family (Cardinalidae).

Of course, I did not show all the birds photographed in this place. In addition, for several hours of good weather, we saw only a small fraction of the birds living here. But I think it becomes clearer why bird photographers come here, in La Selva biological Station.
