Real swallows, just swallows or orcas (lat. Hirundo ) Is a genus of birds of the swallow family, including the widespread barn swallow (Hirundo rustica). In many species of this genus, the back is colored blue, the front of the head, and sometimes the tail and nape are shades of red, and the abdomen is whitish or reddish-brown.

All species of this genus live in the Old World, and the barn swallow is a cosmopolitan, also inhabiting the Americas.

Recent genetic studies have shown that many species, such as the red-rumped swallow (Cecropis daurica) or white-fronted mountain swallow (Cecropis pyrrhonota), formerly classified as a genus of true swallows, in fact have a more distant relationship with them - now they are classified as a different genus of swallows, Cecropis.

  • Song swallow ( Hirundo lucida )
  • Angolan swallow ( Hirundo angolensis )
  • Brown-throated swallow ( Hirundo tahitica )
